He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: “The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful menbe crucified and on the third day be raised again.” Luke 24:6-7
The Universal Church celebrates this Good Friday blessed in the knowledge that He has risen. He is the true light of the world, and He shines in and through all who come to Him so that we can live as the light of the world.
Jesus Christ hung upon the cross on Friday when God forsook him. He cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46). God actually turned away from his son — for he could not look upon the sin that Christ embodied. Even the angels could not minister to him. But His death was meaningful to His people. Jesus paid the ultimate price. He died as our substitute on the cross.
- He was hurt, so that we were healed.
- He was sentenced, so that we were forgiven.
- He made himself poor, so that we could prosper.
- He died, so that we could live.
