“…the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel. Because of the Midianites, the children of Israel made for themselves the dens, the caves, and the strongholds which are in the mountains.” Judges 6:1-2 NKJV Dens, caves and strongholds were the places in which theIsraelites used to hide away from their enemies.
This situation went on for seven years. Although we are talking about a siege that took place many years ago, people today still have the same reaction towards their problems. Those who are depressed may refuse to go out, as they are afraid that people might look down on them. In most cases, they will in one way or another hide from their situation. They will not even take calls from those trying to contact them.
Once the person manages to hide, he thinks he is protected. The Israelites dwelt in caves for seven years. Did it solve the problem? I mean, what changed for them? The answer is NOTHING! Instead, their enemy became even stronger. When Gideon was threshing wheat, the Angel of the Lord appeared to him and said: “The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valour!” (V.12) “Gideon said to Him ‘O my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles, which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the LORD has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.’” (Judges 6:13 NKJV)
Gideon’s attitude was of revolt. He knew that God had done great things in the past, but now his enemies were more powerful than the ‘strong people’ of God. God expects the same from us. Do not hide from your problems any more, or otherwise they will never leave you alone. God is Spirit, and in order to manifest His power, He needs to use someone.
He wants to use you to do great things on earth. God appeared to Gideon, not in the cave, but when he was outside threshing the wheat. If you remain in the cave, you are going to see nothing but your dreams falling apart. If you are willing to see the greatness of God in your life, you have to make a decision right now and get out of the cave. Stop being afraid of your situation. Do not isolate yourself anymore.
