Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.” Proverbs 24:3,4
How beautiful it is to come home to a house that looks just like we are! Every detail, from the decor to the tidiness in every drawer. Everything fits … the colours of every room, the accessories that accentuate the furniture and show your good taste. The style with which you chose to portray yourself was perhaps modern, contemporary or classic.
In the passage above, Proverbs calls this knowledge. As usual, the Bible accentuates what the world does not. You hear people do everything for their appearance, their financial success, and their popularity – but who invests in their own home? Few women do these days. In fact, some even think this is a job for women who don’t do anything in life, housewives – they call them. Some even look down on women who love their homes, as if they’re these ‘Stepford Wives’, so neat, it’s disturbing.
Well, call me a Stepford wife if you want, I like my home to represent me splendidly. When you look at it as your own little place under heaven, why wouldn’t it? How could you look so good and live in such a careless-looking home? I, for one, love looking at home decorations. In some movies, that’s basically all I enjoy in them. Take me to a white room, leave me there for a couple of minutes, and I’ll feel like you’re giving me a gift! But even if you don’t enjoy it, I suggest you try it.
You may be surprised at how interesting it gets, especially when your things start portraying the kind of person you are… There, some ‘knowledge’ few people knew existed … let the rooms be filled with all precious and pleasant riches. If your home looks like it’s loved, imagine yourself? Then again, if there’s no self-love, how can there be any for the home? And if there’s no love for the home, why go home? And if you’re not going home, where are you going? Nowhere.
