Angola continues to fight against cholera
The official death toll that has been reported in Angola from the cholera outbreak has been rising and it is expected to affect another 250 000 people before the disease can be contained.
The ABC is a philanthropic organization, working to promote social progress in Angola. Thousands of volunteers from ABC went to the city of Tady, Bengo province in Angola to distribute informative materials on how to prevent the outbreak of cholera.
Their motto is “Fighting Cholera” which aims to alert people of the community on the dangers that might occur if they do not prevent the disease, mainly cause by the use of unclean water.
In Angola, 5 out of 16 patients have died of cholera in July 2009 in Bocoio district of central Benguela province alone, this was reported by travelhealth.gov.hk
According to the President of ABC, Raquel Ramirez, there was a delivery of materials for the prevention of cholera, school supplies and clothing as well as information on HIV / AIDS.
“We also spoke about the domestic violence that has plagued our society. People should listen more to what God has spoken through the Bible and seek advice from family centres, “said Raquel Reis.
Present at the action was the President of the ABC, the Vice-President, Pastor Osmar, about thirty volunteers, the Provincial Police on behalf of the Governor, traditional authorities and other guests.
At the end of the activity, the president of ABC stressed the fact that the government has made efforts to minimize the situation that the families are facing, but alone it will not be possible to extinguish the causes of gender inequality.
