Night of the Holy Spirit
More than 6,000 people gathered at the Cathedral of Faith in Soweto on Friday, 29th January, to participate in a Night Vigil for the Holy Spirit.
Conducting the vigil, Bishop Marcelo Pires, responsible for the Church in South Africa, said the Holy Spirit inspired people and brought help to those who faced temptation, depression and bad thoughts. Belief would give one the power to resist evil and to overcome problems. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you…” Acts 1:8
“Jesus said, ‘no one has chosen me, but I have chosen you.’ God has brought you here to make you strong before your enemies. You can only receive this strength when the Holy Spirit comes upon you,” said Bishop Marcelo. He urged everyone to seek the Holy Spirit which would show them God’s promises. “The evil one wants to take away your faith, your vision and make you see problems … Cleanse your lives of everything that is against the word of God, then you will receive the Holy Spirit. Your will must be set aside so that the will of God may be upon you,” said Bishop Marcelo. All seven bishops of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God participated in the Night Vigil which lasted for six hours last Friday evening.
