Prison ministry at Sasolburg

Sasolburg prison inmates recently received a visit from the UCKG’s prison ministry group. The purpose of the meeting was to share the good news and preach the word of God. About 98 inmates attended the service and 88 bibles and newspapers were handed over to them.

Not only those who were present at the service benefitted. Prisoners in the hospitals received a visit too, and were given essential toiletries by UCKG volunteers. Pastor Wessels Sibeko, who organised the prison visit, said although this was the first time the Universal Church’s prison ministry had visited Sasolburg, the prisoners they saw had already requested additional visits in future.

Members have travelled to prisons such as Leeuwkop, Johannesburg Prison known as “Sun City”, Krugersdorp, Nigel in Gauteng as well as Groenpunt and Sasolburg in Free State. A signifi cant part of their ministry is restoring the faith of those who have lost hope, because of the circumstances in which they have found themselves. Pr Wessel said prisoners had been told that if they asked God for His guidance, He would surely manifest His power upon their lives.

“Ask for His help concerning whatever you decide in life, and in that way His light will always shine on you,” said Pastor Wessels. The important message that the inmates were left with was that what you plant as an individual is what you reap. Regardless of the bad choices that one has made in the past, God has not turned his back on anyone.

As the Bible says “For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
