The beginning of a new life

Sixteen prisoners held by Nigel Correctional Services recently decided to give their lives to Jesus and took the step of being baptised. Their conversion was the result of the UCKG’s Prison Group’s visits and talks to inmates in the prison.

“The impact that the Prison Group has had in prisons is great. Many prisoners write letters of gratitude to the church and many come to the church when they have been released from prison. Their testimonies strengthen their relationship with God,” said Pastor Wessels.

As part of the prison evangelism programme, Pastor Wessels Sibeko explained the significance of choosing Christianity and baptised the prisoners. Prison Group volunteers preach the Gospel in prisons throughout Gauteng to give hope to those who face years behind bars and to teach them about God.

Pastor Wessels said, “We teach the inmates that when we visit them, we do not pray for them to come out of prison but we pray that they have an encounter with God that will change their lives. We also encourage them to use their faith and to ask God to help them out of their situation.”

Church members donated 300 Plenitude magazines for distribution in prisons. These gave prisoners the opportunity to read about other people’s testimonies and ways in which they could build and strengthen themselves eventually to change their lives,

The Prison Group has been active in many different prisons throughout the province, dedicating time to spreading the word of God and has visited more than 1 000 inmates in the past year.
