Snuff controlled my life

Snuff controlled my life

For over 22 years Amelia battled with an addiction to using snuff. Her problem was so severe that she couldn’t go to the toilet for days if she didn’t get her fix of snuff.

“I started taking snuff from a young age as a natural home remedy for headaches. It later became a habit. When I didn’t sniff it, I felt like my head had been bashed against the wall. I was then forced to use snuff every day. It became a habit that was hard to break. I bought a small container in the morning and before midday it would be finished. In my attempts to stop sniffing, I suffered from constipation. I couldn’t relieve myself when I went to the restroom unless I sniffed. I started spending a lot of money every day on snuff, money that I could have spent on something better. I would even ask friends and relatives to buy me snuff when I didn’t have money. I would get angry with them when they refused and wouldn’t speak to them for almost a week. I then started buying the big snuff container that supermarkets bought to sell to the public,” she said.

One afternoon while watching television, Amelia saw one of the Universal Church’s television broadcasts. After listening to a pastor preaching, she became curious to know more about the church.

“The pastor was preaching about different kinds of problems that people were going through and he mentioned addictions as well. That’s when I realised that I had a problem that was beyond my control. I wrote the Helpline number somewhere, but never called. One morning on my way to work I was invited into the church by one of the assistants who was evangelising outside. I accepted the invitation, but was not aware that this was the Universal Church I had seen on television. It was after I saw the church newspaper that I realised I was at the church I had been longing to visit. On my second day in the church I spoke to a pastor about my problem and he suggested that I attend services on Tuesdays and Fridays for deliverance. Three weeks into my chain of prayer, I was able to break free from using snuff and did not suffer from constipation like before.

Allowing God to work in my life gave me peace of mind. There is light and rest in His presence. No works of the devil formed against me shall prosper,” said Amelia.
