Depending on others often made me feel worthless
For 13 years Skhumbuzo tried to become financially independent, but it was in vain. One day he was invited to give God a chance… Skhumbuzo Gumede is a happily married man, father, successful businessman and also head of department for his company.
Things weren’t always this good for him and his family. “I worked for 13 years in the same company earning a miserable salary which did not support me or my family. I was forced to depend on my family for both financial support and accommodation and that often made me feel worthless,” he said.
Although Skhumbuzo earned R3,000 a month, this income was like water poured into a bucket with holes. He couldn’t afford to pay his car instalments or debts. “Then I saw an advert for the Universal Church in Ilanga newspaper and I went there in the hope of finding a new life,” he said. It was at the Church that he met the woman he wanted to marry. They took part in chains of prayers, involved themselves in the movements of faith together and asked for what they needed. Skhumbuzo was promoted at work, he and his fiancé married and moved into a one-roomed, rented place.
“Although I had a promotion, my salary was not enough to support both me and my family. The lowest point of my life was when I had to send my child to a free school because I could not afford to take her to a better school. We had financial difficulties but we continued attending church and faithfully taking part in the chains of prayer. “ We realised we could have a great life. When the campaign of Israel was introduced, we asked God for a better place to stay … I got a salary increase and I started to build a house … I received another promotion at work. Then I took my daughter out of school and could send her to a better school.
“It was always our dream to own a Land Rover so when the Campaign of Israel was introduced, we made our request. My business began to do well and we managed to buy ourselves the Land Rover. Today Skhumbuzo is successful. He has a three cars, a good business and a beautiful home for his family.
