Disposition to Deceive

The human mind is probably one of the most powerful assets in one's life. Because of the ability to think, create and innovate, mankind has been breaking barriers, and exceeding limitations.

Just look at the amazing developments in technology, science and medicine. Every day men and women are creating something or innovating what has been thought of.

Personal computers, watches, cars, airplanes and many gadgets are so advanced compared to 10 years ago, but there is one thing we still struggle with - the tug-of-war between the heart and the mind.

In spite of people being so awesome, they are failing in one simple, yet very important decision in their lives, a decision which distinguishes future losers from winners: which to follow, the heart or the mind?

I have just come across this quote: "The cost of not following your heart, is spending the rest of your life wishing you had." (Out of respect for the author, I won’t give the source.)

I am wondering if people do understand how damaging it is to think in this way or even if they really know what to follow the heart means?  Here is the real meaning of “the cost of following your heart".

"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?" Jeremiah 17:9

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the definition of deceitful is: having a tendency or disposition to deceive or give false impression.

a: not honest

God, the creator of heaven and earth is giving the true advice here. Run away from what your heart (emotion) is asking for and instead use your intelligence (mind).

Think before you act, analyse your intentions, weigh the consequences of your actions and then, once you are clear in your own mind, make your decision.

If you choose to behave other than that, you will be making choices based on “quotes” that you read somewhere offering ways to find moments of pleasure and satisfaction.  What you will have, in fact, is the regret of having followed your heart, because you were not thinking straight.

Ask the woman who married the wrong man or to the student who went to university to study a subject that was not really what he thought it was.  You will find that following your heart is nothing but a huge waste of time.

If you are following your heart, be aware, you are likely to be making the biggest mistake of your life.

Thus, the solution is to use your mind in an intelligent way. Put your head to work, THINK! And YES, God is the best partner you can have to coach you in how to have and use intelligence in a profitable way.

That is why we say that if you want to change your life, you need first of all to change the way you make choices.

"Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding; for her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, and her gain than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, and all the things you may desire cannot compare with her. Length of days is in her right hand, in her left hand riches and honor. Proverbs 3:13-16

God bless you
