A painful chapter of my life
Battling with severe abdominal pain that started after giving birth and the unexplained disappearance of her husband when she needed him the most left Thandi in despair.
"It was the most difficult time of my life when my husband went missing. I depended on my in-laws for financial support because I was not working and was in bed a lot of the time because of the severe abdominal pains I was suffering. Being unable to do household chores while I lived with my in-laws put more strain on me.
I felt betrayed and rejected by my husband, but going back to my parents' house was not an option because my family lived on next to nothing. I wore hand-me-down clothes from people. I developed anger towards my husband as the years went by and he didn't come back home," she said.
In 1996, Thandi was on her way back from a doctor when she saw a Universal Church building and heard people praying. Desperate to see a change in her life, she went in.
"I poured my heart out to God and asked Him to heal me emotionally and physically. From that day the abdominal pain disappeared and I slept peacefully. I started attending services every day," she said.
Thandi recalls the day God answered her prayers about her husband.
"I came home from church and found my husband at home after he had been away for three years. I was still very angry with him, but I made up my mind that I was going to forgive him. Forgiving him brought me inner healing and peace I had not had for years. In 2000, I found a job and my life improved. My eldest child now works. We are a united and happy family. Trusting in God did not only heal me physically and emotionally, but it also gave me a new lease on life," she said.
