She thought that education would help her escape poverty
Mathapelo Moye faced great hardships from childhood. She lost her mother when she was five years old and her grandmother a year later, leaving her and her sister to be raised by their uncles. Although they were loved, financial struggles and constant family conflicts left deep emotional wounds inside her.
A bright and hardworking student, Mathapelo thought that education would help her escape poverty. However, after a beloved uncle moved away and a close friend committed suicide, she fell into depression. Feeling rejected and empty, she sought comfort in unhealthy relationships, hoping to fill the void in her heart. Instead, she became more broken and lost.
Concerned about her condition, one of her uncles invited her to church. Her life began to improve. Yet she had not fully surrendered to God and later drifted away, being in destructive relationships that ended up with her terminating an unwanted pregnancy. Overwhelmed by guilt, regret, and hopelessness, she reached her lowest point.
“I was determined to change, so I decided to return to God wholeheartedly. During the Campaign of Israel, I placed my life on the altar and surrendered my will and desires to Him. I sought God sincerely and was soon baptised with the Holy Spirit.
From that moment on, everything changed. The depression, emptiness, and confusion disappeared, and they were replaced by peace and joy, and my life finally had purpose and meaning,” said Mathapelo.
Now she has a restored life, a faithful husband, a son, and an unshakeable faith in God.
